Mark has been involved in music most of his life. He has been the director of the Folk Music Ensemble program at Brigham Young University since 1992. Mark plays guitar, mandolin, bass, and a few other instruments like the American Appalachian dulcimer, and the Irish Bodhrán. 

His higher education includes a BA degree from BYU, and an MA degree from Ashland University. Mark is married to Jeanette Eilskov Karnil and has 3 kids: Alina, Isaac, and Ellie.  All are musicians like their dad, and the daughters are dancers like their mom!
